Video Analytics Evaluation Checklist
Video analytics can help operators find or review relevant events, but usefulness depends on the scene, configuration and response workflow. Evaluate a defined use case rather than a broad claim that software understands every event.
Define the event and decision
State what staff need to detect or find, where it occurs and what action the information supports. Separate a real-time notification from a later search. Identify who evaluates a result and when human review is required.
Test representative conditions
Include expected lighting, weather, movement, crowding and obstructions. Agree how to record missed events and unwanted alerts. Compare performance using relevant examples from the actual environment rather than relying only on a demonstration scene.
Plan review, privacy and maintenance
Define access permissions, retention, record handling and the organization’s review of privacy-sensitive features. Document licenses, computing and network requirements. Specify how scene changes, firmware changes or moved cameras trigger reassessment.
